Aaniin/Tansi everyone,
Happy Indigenous People’s Day!
As Manitoba heats up, dries out, and moves away from the pandemic, we hope that people across Turtle Island come together to celebrate our cultures, history, communities, and languages!
June 21, 2022 is the 26th Annual Indigenous People’s Day! A day to show pride in the heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples!
Manitoba Moon Voices Inc. and its membership have many things to celebrate.
In the year since the last Indigenous People’s Day, our membership grew by 201 Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse individuals, an increase of 133 per cent.
MMVI is proud to have helped our members gain valuable skills and work training by providing Security Guard and Essential Skills training. We helped hundreds of our members reconnect with their cultural heritage with a multitude of workshops, including a Ribbon Skirt workshop and a Red Dress beading workshop.
Manitoba Moon Voices also launched the Reclaiming Our Power and Place Initiative. Reclaiming Our Power and Place is a 12-week program that addresses the impacts of violence through connection with traditional culture and community supports.
In order to give voice to our members we held membership engagement sessions and have a plan to meet with and listen to Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse individuals across Manitoba in the coming years. We are eager to hear what your needs are so we can take steps to meet them.
We hope that all our members can use Indigenous People’s Day to continue their healing journey and celebrate our accomplishments and resilience.
Today is our day to stand up and be proud of who we are and who we are becoming.
MMVI wishes you the very best Indigenous People’s Day!
Miigwetch,
